DefenseFit uses basic physical qualities that support training and everyday capability. Three useful examples are grip, loaded carries, and trunk control. They show up in lifting, grappling practice, carrying objects, and many ordinary tasks.
A 2024 study on the loaded carry movement pattern measured muscle activation across carry variations. It supports loaded carries as a legitimate resistance-training task, while leaving questions about long-term outcomes and sport transfer open.
Grip: hold what the task requires
Grip work can come from rows, carries, hangs, kettlebells, dumbbells, gi gripping, and ordinary resistance exercises. The goal is not to exhaust the forearms every session. It is to build enough capacity that grip is not always the first thing that limits the task.
Carry: strength while moving
Loaded carries ask the athlete to maintain position while walking with external load. A coach can adjust load, distance, side, implement, and speed to fit the training goal. Smooth steps and controllable posture matter more than chasing a dramatic number.
Core: control, not just crunches
“Core” is broad. In DefenseFit, trunk training can include resisting unwanted movement, transferring force between the lower and upper body, and maintaining position during carries or landmine work.
Put the qualities together
A simple training block might pair a carry, a row or hold, and a trunk-control exercise. The exact exercises depend on equipment, experience, and current ability. Keep the work controlled enough that movement quality stays visible.
Connection to practical readiness
These qualities can support BJJ, Fight IQ, and general physical preparedness. They do not replace technical instruction, awareness, communication, or decision-making. Think of them as fitness that supports skill practice.
Evidence limits
The loaded-carry study measured muscle activation. Muscle activation alone does not establish long-term adaptation, injury prevention, or direct transfer to another activity.
